Post by : Shakul

At least 24 people have been confirmed dead after a passenger bus carrying around 40 Passengers plunged into the Padma River while attempting to board a ferry in Bangladesh.

The tragic accident occurred near Daulatdia ferry terminal in Rajbari district, approximately 100 km from Dhaka, when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while approaching the ferry ramp.

According to officials, the bus overturned and sank nearly 30 feet into the river, trapping passengers inside. Rescue teams later recovered 22 bodies from the submerged vehicle, including men, women, and children. Two additional victims died after being pulled out alive, raising the death toll to 24.

Emergency response teams, including fire service units and trained divers, launched an extensive rescue operation. The mission was supported by the army, police, coast guard, and local authorities. Search efforts are still ongoing, as officials fear that more passengers may be missing.

Authorities stated that visibility, road conditions, and possible driver error are being examined as part of the investigation into the cause of the accident.

Bangladesh witnesses frequent road and ferry-related accidents due to overcrowding, poor infrastructure, and safety lapses. Every year, hundreds of lives are lost in similar incidents across the country.

This latest tragedy has once again raised serious concerns about transport safety standards and emergency preparedness in riverine regions of Bangladesh.
