Delhi and its surrounding areas witnessed heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning, providing much-needed relief from the ongoing hot and humid weather during the festive season. The rain affected several parts of the national capital region, including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather in Delhi NCR is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light rain or drizzle continuing throughout the day.
The downpour brought temporary relief from the soaring temperatures, but also caused waterlogging in various parts of the city. Notably, Zakhira underpass in Delhi was flooded, creating difficulties for daily commuters. The IMD issued an orange alert for Delhi and Gurugram until 2:55 pm, while Noida and Ghaziabad remain under a yellow alert, signaling caution for residents and travelers in these regions.
The heavy rainfall has impacted normal transportation and movement across the city. Residents are advised to remain cautious while commuting, as roads may be slippery or partially submerged in water. The rain, while beneficial in cooling the city, has also caused disruption to routine activities.
Airlines operating in Delhi have issued advisories due to the potential impact on flight operations. IndiGo informed passengers that persistent rainfall and thunderstorms might lead to delays. The airline urged travelers to check their flight status online and to leave early to accommodate slower traffic on waterlogged roads. “Persistent rainfall and thunderstorms are currently affecting Delhi, leading to possible delays in flight operations. Our teams are monitoring the situation to ensure a smooth journey once conditions improve,” stated an IndiGo official.
Air India also cautioned travelers about potential flight disruptions, advising passengers to allow extra time for reaching the airport. Meanwhile, Delhi Airport clarified that flight operations are currently running normally, with on-ground teams working closely with stakeholders to ensure passenger safety and smooth travel.
The rainfall highlights both the seasonal challenges of the monsoon in Delhi NCR and the ongoing need for preparedness during heavy weather conditions. While it brought relief from extreme heat, it also underscores the importance of careful planning for commuters and travelers to avoid delays and accidents. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates, follow traffic advisories, and take precautions while traveling in flooded or waterlogged areas.
This rain event also reflects the typical challenges faced in urban centers during heavy monsoon showers, where infrastructure, traffic, and public services must quickly adapt to ensure safety and minimal disruption to daily life. The IMD continues to monitor the weather patterns in the national capital region and has asked citizens to stay alert for further updates throughout the day.
