India’s Cockroach Janata Party Protesters to Hold Talks With Government Over Exam Reforms

India’s Cockroach Janata Party Protesters to Hold Talks With Government Over Exam Reforms

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Government Dialogue Begins as Youth Protest Continues

Representatives of India’s Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest are set to meet government officials for talks as thousands of young protesters continue their nationwide campaign demanding education reforms and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The meeting comes after weeks of demonstrations over examination paper leaks and concerns about India’s education system. Protesters say the government must take stronger action to protect students and ensure fairness in major competitive exams.

The protests have become a major challenge for the government, with thousands of students and young people joining demonstrations across several cities.

Sonam Wangchuk Ends 26-Day Hunger Strike

The latest development followed activist Sonam Wangchuk ending his hunger strike after fasting for 26 days in support of the protesters.

Wangchuk ended his fast after receiving assurances from the government that discussions would be held on examination reforms, accountability in the education system and the alleged leak of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper.

He also said he received assurances that protesters would not face legal action for demonstrations held at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and during marches towards Parliament.

However, Wangchuk said no specific promise was made regarding the protesters’ demand for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

PM Modi Announces New Law Against Exam Paper Leaks

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the growing controversy by announcing that the government is preparing a strict new law to deal with examination paper leaks.

In a video message shared online, Modi said exam paper leaks create serious problems for students and their families. He said a draft law would be discussed by the Cabinet before being introduced in Parliament.

The government’s proposed action focuses on preventing cheating, improving examination security and punishing those involved in paper leaks.

NEET Paper Leak Issue Triggers Nationwide Anger

The main issue behind the protests is the alleged leak of examination papers, especially the controversy surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical admissions.

Around 2.28 million students appeared for the NEET exam on May 3. The exam was cancelled after allegations of irregularities, and a re-test was later conducted.

The issue caused anger among students and parents, with protesters demanding accountability and stronger reforms in India’s examination system.

Protesters Continue Demand for Education Minister’s Resignation

Although the government has promised action on exam reforms, CJP representatives said they will continue their protest until Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.

CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the Prime Minister’s response showed that the protests had created pressure on the government. He argued that removing the education minister would be the strongest step toward restoring public confidence.

Dharmendra Pradhan has not directly responded to the resignation demand but earlier accused opposition groups of using student concerns for political purposes.

Security Increased at Delhi Protest Site

The protest movement continued at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where hundreds of young demonstrators spent the night raising slogans and demanding changes in the education system.

Authorities increased security around the protest area, with a large police presence deployed. Mobile internet restrictions were also reported in some areas, and several metro stations were temporarily closed.

The demonstrations have become one of the most visible youth-led protest movements against the government in recent years.

How Cockroach Janata Party Became a Youth Movement

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) started as an online satirical movement in May. The group adopted the name after comments involving the word “cockroach” became a topic of discussion among unemployed youth.

The movement later shifted its focus towards education issues, especially exam paper leaks and irregularities in competitive examinations.

Through social media platforms, CJP gained support from thousands of young people and turned into a major student-led campaign demanding changes in India’s education system.
