Indonesia’s haj departures are continuing as scheduled despite rising tensions in the Middle East linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Authorities have confirmed that preparations are in their final stage, with the first group of pilgrims expected to depart on April 22.
The government has assured that all necessary safety measures are in place to ensure a smooth and secure pilgrimage process. Officials emphasized that the situation in the Middle East is being closely monitored, but it is not expected to disrupt haj operations.
For the 2026 haj season, Indonesia has been allocated a quota of 221,000 pilgrims, making it one of the largest groups globally. The majority of pilgrims fall within the age group of 41 to 64 years, while a significant number of elderly participants aged 65 and above are also preparing for the journey.
The first wave of pilgrims will travel to Medina starting April 22, while the second wave is scheduled to depart from May 7 to Jeddah. Preparations include training sessions that simulate pilgrimage rituals, helping participants familiarize themselves with the process before arriving in Saudi Arabia.
Many pilgrims remain confident despite the geopolitical situation. Individuals preparing for the journey have expressed hope that the conflict will not affect their pilgrimage, noting that the areas involved in the tensions are limited and do not directly impact haj routes.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of all pilgrims, while continuing coordination with international agencies. The haj season, expected to take place from May 24 to 29, is proceeding as planned with full readiness.
The continuation of haj departures highlights Indonesia’s strong organizational efforts and its determination to ensure that religious obligations are fulfilled without disruption, even amid global uncertainties.
