A bear rampage in northern Japan left four people injured after attacks were reported across factories and a nearby residential area in Fukushima City, according to local police and media reports.
Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred when a bear entered an industrial area and attacked workers inside a car parts factory, triggering panic and emergency calls from employees who reported being bitten.
The animal continued moving through the area, leading to further attacks at two additional locations, including another factory and a residential neighborhood, where more people were injured. Officials stated that one victim sustained serious injuries, while the others suffered minor wounds.
Police and emergency services launched a rapid response operation as the bear reportedly remained inside or around the factory premises, creating ongoing safety concerns for workers and residents in the surrounding area.
Local media reports, including Yomiuri Shimbun, stated that the bear was first spotted inside a car parts manufacturing facility before attacking employees, forcing immediate evacuation procedures and emergency alerts.
Japan has witnessed a sharp increase in bear-related incidents in recent years, particularly as animals emerge from winter hibernation in search of food. Wildlife experts say that shrinking natural habitats and food shortages are pushing bears closer to human settlements.
Official data shows that bear sightings in Japan exceeded 50,000 in the last fiscal year, marking a record high and more than double the previous peak recorded just two years earlier.
In many cases, bears have been reported entering homes, approaching schools, roaming supermarkets, and even appearing in hot spring resort areas, highlighting a growing human-wildlife conflict across rural and semi-urban regions.
Earlier this year, several bear attacks were also reported in different parts of Japan, including fatalities and multiple injuries, raising public concern over safety measures and wildlife control policies.
Authorities have urged residents in affected regions to remain alert, avoid forest edges, and report sightings immediately, while search operations continue to locate and capture the animal responsible for the Fukushima attacks.
