KL Tower Bribery Case Move to High Court Sought

KL Tower Bribery Case Move to High Court Sought

Post by : Shakul

Kuala Lumpur, April 14, 2026 — Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd and its director Abdul Hamid Shaikh Abdul Razak have applied to transfer a high-profile bribery case to the High Court. The case involves allegations of offering RM500,000 annually over 15 years linked to the takeover of the Kuala Lumpur Tower concession.

The application was filed on April 1 through their legal representatives, naming the public prosecutor as the respondent. The defence argued that the case involves complex legal and constitutional issues that may exceed the jurisdiction of the Sessions Court.

In his affidavit, Abdul Hamid highlighted concerns regarding self-incrimination and potential double jeopardy. He noted that separate charges have been filed against him as an individual and against the company, even though both are based on the same underlying allegation.

He further argued that transferring the case to the High Court would allow for a clearer interpretation of constitutional matters and enable appeals to higher courts, including the Federal Court, if necessary.

The charges are linked to an alleged bribery offer made to former Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa to facilitate the takeover of the KL Tower concession. The alleged offence took place between July and August 2022 in Putrajaya.

During the latest court proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar informed that the High Court has scheduled May 15 to hear the transfer application. The Sessions Court has vacated trial dates set for May 7 and 8, pending the outcome of this request.

Under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, the charges carry severe penalties, including up to 20 years’ imprisonment or substantial fines. The case continues to draw attention due to its legal complexity and high-profile nature.
