South Korea’s President is set to visit Vietnam in a high-level diplomatic trip expected to strengthen long-term strategic cooperation between the two countries. The visit comes at a time when bilateral ties are already at their strongest, following the elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.
The trip is seen as more than symbolic, reflecting growing trust and alignment between Hanoi and Seoul on economic, political, and regional priorities. South Korea remains Vietnam’s largest foreign investor, with total investments exceeding $90 billion, and is one of its top trading partners. Bilateral trade is projected to reach around $88 billion in 2025, with both nations aiming to expand it further to $100 billion and eventually $150 billion by 2030.
Key discussions during the visit are expected to focus on deepening cooperation in high-value sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, batteries, and clean energy. Both countries are also looking to strengthen supply chain integration and enhance economic security amid shifting global trade dynamics.
Science and technology collaboration is likely to become a central pillar of the partnership, with increased emphasis on joint research, innovation, and workforce development. Vietnam is seeking to upgrade its position in global value chains, while South Korea aims to expand opportunities for its businesses in Southeast Asia.
People-to-people ties continue to play a crucial role in bilateral relations, with around 350,000 Vietnamese living in South Korea and a significant Korean community in Vietnam. Cultural exchanges and educational cooperation are expected to further strengthen these connections.
On the regional front, both countries share common goals of maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. They are likely to enhance cooperation within ASEAN-led frameworks and support initiatives related to digital transformation, infrastructure development, and sustainable energy.
The visit is expected to mark a new phase in Vietnam–South Korea relations, focusing on deeper, more sustainable, and future-oriented cooperation across multiple sectors.
