Kyrgyzstan has reaffirmed its ambition to become a leading regional trade and agricultural hub during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026, with senior government officials outlining a long-term strategy focused on food security, export growth, and regional economic integration.
Speaking at several high-level discussions during the forum, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Daniyar Amangeldiev, highlighted the country’s commitment to strengthening its position within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and expanding its influence in international agricultural markets. He emphasized that agriculture remains one of the key pillars of Kyrgyzstan’s economic development strategy.
During the panel session dedicated to the role of EAEU member states in shaping global agricultural markets, Amangeldiev explained that Kyrgyzstan is actively increasing the export capacity of its agricultural sector while encouraging deeper processing of farm products. The government is supporting producers through subsidy programs, modern veterinary and sanitary standards, and the introduction of advanced technologies aimed at improving productivity and sustainability.
The Kyrgyz official also underscored the importance of efficient water management and scientific cooperation among EAEU members. According to him, these initiatives are helping create a more innovative and resilient food system capable of meeting both domestic needs and international market demands. He added that Kyrgyzstan is prepared to welcome joint investments in logistics infrastructure and aquaculture projects to further diversify its agricultural economy.
Addressing another forum session focused on the changing global economic order, Amangeldiev presented Kyrgyzstan’s vision for adapting to shifting international trade and financial dynamics. He noted that traditional economic structures are undergoing significant transformation and argued that countries capable of adapting quickly will gain strategic advantages in the years ahead.
He said Kyrgyzstan is steadily positioning itself as a crucial regional hub linking major trade and transit routes across Central Asia. By leveraging its geographic location and improving connectivity, the country aims to attract investment, boost economic growth, and contribute to greater regional stability. Officials believe this approach will strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s role in the evolving global economy while creating new opportunities for businesses and investors.
The day concluded with Amangeldiev’s participation in the plenary session of SPIEF 2026, where heads of state, policymakers, and business leaders discussed future global development trends and long-term international partnerships. The forum provided Kyrgyzstan with an important platform to showcase its economic ambitions and reinforce its commitment to regional cooperation, sustainable development, and international investment opportunities.
