PH's Lee Says Rail Links Can Boost Johor Economy

PH's Lee Says Rail Links Can Boost Johor Economy

Post by : Shakul

Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Johor Jaya, Lee Wern Yiing, has said improved public transportation and rail connectivity will play a major role in driving Johor's economic growth. Speaking during a campaign forum ahead of the Johor state election, Lee said better transport links would create employment opportunities, attract new investments and improve the quality of life for residents.

Major Rail Projects Expected to Transform Johor

Lee said Johor is entering a new phase of development with several major railway projects becoming operational. She pointed to the Electric Train Service (ETS), which now connects Johor with other parts of Peninsular Malaysia, and the upcoming Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, expected to begin operations within the next six months.

How Will Better Rail Connectivity Benefit Johor?

According to Lee, improved transportation will make travel faster and more convenient for workers, businesses and investors. She said stronger rail connections will encourage economic activity, improve access to industrial areas and strengthen Johor Bahru's position as an investment destination.

Southern Shuttle Expands Public Transport

Lee also welcomed the launch of the Southern Shuttle commuter service connecting JB Sentral, Kulai, Gemas and Pasir Gudang. She noted that the Gemas–Pasir Gudang railway line, previously used mainly for cargo transportation, is now carrying passenger trains, providing greater mobility across the state.

PH Promises Continued Cross-Border Cooperation

Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen Kah Eng said Pakatan Harapan representatives would continue addressing cross-border issues affecting Johor residents who travel frequently between Malaysia and Singapore. He added that stronger economic cooperation with Singapore would benefit families, businesses and daily commuters.

Government Reforms Also Highlighted

Former Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Yeo Bee Yin said the Unity Government has introduced important governance reforms over the past three years. She highlighted measures including the Fiscal Responsibility Act, amendments to the Audit Act, procurement reforms, stronger child protection laws and improvements to anti-bullying legislation. She urged voters to support continued institutional reforms during the upcoming Johor state election.
