Malaysia unveils AI badminton review system

Malaysia unveils AI badminton review system

Post by : Shakul

Malaysia has achieved a major milestone in sports technology with the launch of the world’s first artificial intelligence powered instant review system for badminton. The system has received official approval from the Badminton World Federation, making it a significant innovation in the sport.

The technology has been developed by Revealtek Sdn Bhd, a company focused on digital solutions for badminton. It was recently introduced at the Petronas National Under 18 Badminton Championship held in Selangor, where it was used in a real tournament setting.

This system allows players to challenge line decisions during matches. Using advanced AI powered cameras, the system reviews the movement of the shuttlecock and determines whether it lands inside or outside the court lines. The decision is displayed within seconds on screens for players, officials, and spectators to see clearly.

The technology is part of a broader digital platform known as the Reveal Digital Badminton Suite. This platform combines multiple features including the instant review system, a digital scoring tool for umpires, and live streaming with real time score updates for audiences.

One of the key advantages of this system is its flexibility and ease of use. Unlike traditional systems used in international tournaments, which require complex infrastructure and high costs, this system can be set up quickly and operates wirelessly. It can be installed in less than one hour and used on different types of courts.

The company’s leadership explained that the goal behind this innovation is to make professional level officiating technology accessible to more tournaments. Previously, such systems were limited to elite competitions due to high costs, which could exceed one hundred thousand US dollars per event.

The new system not only improves decision making during matches but also helps maintain the flow of the game. Faster decisions reduce disputes between players and officials, while recorded footage can be used later for performance analysis and training purposes.

Early feedback from players, coaches, and officials has been positive. Many have said that the system provides clearer decisions and improves the overall match experience, even at junior level competitions.

With this development, Malaysia is positioning itself as a global leader in badminton technology. The company aims to expand the use of this system to international tournaments, national associations, private clubs, and even recreational matches, making advanced sports technology more widely available.
