Malaysia is set to introduce a redesigned version of its international passport featuring 94 advanced security features aimed at strengthening document protection and preventing identity fraud. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officially launch the upgraded passport at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday.
The redesigned passport represents a significant improvement over the current version, which contains 49 security features. Officials say the latest enhancements will make the document far more difficult to counterfeit while improving international travel security for Malaysian citizens.
Enhanced Security Features Added
The upgraded passport includes holographic security elements, ultraviolet (UV) printing, hidden visual images and multiple forensic-level authentication features designed to prevent forgery. Authorities have also strengthened the security thread used to bind the passport booklet.
Each passport page has been redesigned with unique artwork and security layouts, providing additional layers of protection against document tampering and unauthorized duplication.
Why Is Malaysia Introducing a New Passport?
The Malaysian government says the redesigned passport is part of its ongoing effort to improve national identity document security. As digital identity fraud and document forgery continue to evolve worldwide, stronger security measures are becoming increasingly important.
The initiative also complements earlier government plans to introduce upgraded MyKad identity cards with enhanced security technologies.
Malaysia Continues to Strengthen Travel Security
Officials believe the upgraded passport will help protect Malaysian citizens while reinforcing the country's reputation for issuing secure travel documents. The improved passport aligns with international security standards adopted by many advanced nations.
Malaysia's passport has consistently ranked among the world's strongest travel documents, allowing visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to numerous destinations worldwide.
What Makes the New Passport More Secure?
The new passport combines multiple layers of physical and forensic security technologies. Features such as holograms, UV-sensitive printing, invisible images and enhanced binding techniques work together to make duplication extremely difficult.

Malaysia's redesigned passport reflects this global trend toward stronger biometric and security protections while ensuring smoother international travel. Enhanced passport security also strengthens international confidence in Malaysia's immigration system and supports safer global mobility.
