Safawi Rasid has made it clear that Malaysia national football team still have pride to fight for as they prepare to face Vietnam national football team in their final group match.
Despite being out of contention for the AFC Asian Cup, Malaysia are determined to end their campaign on a positive note. The team’s earlier victories against Vietnam and Nepal were forfeited by the Asian Football Confederation due to the use of ineligible players, which significantly impacted their qualification hopes.
The upcoming match in Nam Dinh on March 31 now carries emotional weight, with redemption and national pride becoming the main driving forces for the squad.
Safawi, one of Malaysia’s most experienced players, emphasized that the team remains motivated and focused. With over 70 international caps and more than 20 goals, he believes the presence of seasoned players will help Malaysia stay competitive even in a challenging away fixture.
The forward has been in strong form at club level with Kuala Lumpur City FC, contributing goals and assists throughout the season. He now aims to carry that momentum into the international stage.
Responding to criticism about his form, Safawi expressed confidence, stating that his performances and statistics will ultimately speak for themselves. He remains committed to giving his best if selected for the crucial clash.
The match is expected to be intense, as both teams share a competitive rivalry, and Malaysia will be eager to prove a point after the recent setbacks.
