Two Malaysian tourists were injured after a roadside bomb exploded in Thailand's southern Narathiwat province on June 29. Authorities said the improvised explosive device (IED) was believed to have been planted to target a paramilitary patrol vehicle, but it detonated when the tourists' car passed the location.
Bomb Was Hidden Inside Gas Cylinder
Investigators said bomb disposal experts later recovered parts of a 70-kilogram improvised explosive device concealed inside a gas cylinder. Officials believe the device was triggered remotely using a radio signal, indicating the attack had been carefully planned.
Tourists Injured in Suspected Militant Attack
Authorities said the Malaysian tourists received injuries from the explosion and were provided medical treatment. Initial investigations suggest the attack was not aimed at civilians but at security personnel operating in the area. The tourists were caught in the blast after their vehicle overtook the intended target.
Security Forces Launch Investigation
Thai security agencies have launched a large-scale investigation to identify those responsible for the bombing. Police and military units are conducting searches in the area while bomb disposal teams continue examining evidence collected from the blast site.
