Lionel Messi Supports Neymar for Brazil's 2026 World Cup Team Despite Injury Concerns

Lionel Messi Supports Neymar for Brazil's 2026 World Cup Team Despite Injury Concerns

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Lionel Messi has voiced compelling support for his former Barcelona teammate Neymar, asserting that the Brazilian star should be included in Brazil's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite lingering fitness worries.

Neymar, who stands as Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 79 international goals, has not represented his nation since a critical knee injury sidelined him in October 2023. Upon his return to Santos, he has faced challenges in achieving peak performance and match readiness.

According to Brazil's head coach Carlo Ancelotti, Neymar's selection hinges on his ability to demonstrate full fitness. Ancelotti earlier indicated that the clock is ticking for the striker to prove he’s prepared for international play.

During his appearance on the “Lo del Pollo” program, Messi reaffirmed that Neymar remains one of the top players globally. He emphasized that to have their strongest lineup, Neymar deserves a spot irrespective of his current condition. Messi expressed excitement over the possibility of Neymar at the World Cup, highlighting his significance to both Brazil and the sport at large.

Messi, who led Argentina to World Cup victory in 2022, considers Brazil among the frontrunners for the 2026 championship alongside Spain and France, citing their consistent quality and depth in talent for competing in major events.

The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place across Canada, the United States, and Mexico, starting on June 11.
