Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for several parts of Malaysia as thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to continue affecting multiple states until late evening. Authorities urged residents to remain alert and take precautions as unstable weather conditions could disrupt travel, daily activities and outdoor operations.
According to MetMalaysia, severe weather conditions are expected in at least 10 states and federal territories across the country. In Kedah, affected areas include Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling and Kulim. Several districts in Perak, including Larut, Matang, Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Kampar, are also expected to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Weather authorities also warned residents in Kelantan and Terengganu to remain cautious as strong storms are forecast in Gua Musang, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman. In Pahang, the warning covers areas such as Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Kuantan and Pekan. Meteorologists stated that these weather systems may bring intense rainfall within short periods, increasing the risk of flash floods and localised disruptions.
Additional warnings have been issued for parts of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Johor. Areas including Hulu Selangor, Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Tampin, Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru are expected to face unstable weather conditions throughout the evening. Authorities advised motorists to drive carefully due to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions during heavy rain.
In East Malaysia, several districts in Sarawak and Sabah are also expected to be affected by thunderstorms and strong winds. MetMalaysia said the warning includes areas such as Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Miri and Limbang in Sarawak. In Sabah, weather risks are expected in the Interior Division, West Coast areas including Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran, as well as Tawau and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
Experts say Malaysia frequently experiences thunderstorms and heavy rainfall during periods of seasonal weather transition. However, sudden storms combined with strong winds can still pose risks to public safety, transportation and infrastructure. Local authorities are monitoring conditions closely and may issue additional advisories if weather patterns worsen over the coming hours.
Residents in affected regions have been encouraged to stay updated through official weather channels and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during severe weather conditions. Disaster management officials also advised people living in flood-prone areas to remain prepared in case of rising water levels or emergency evacuations. The latest warning highlights the importance of weather preparedness as changing climate conditions continue to increase the frequency of extreme weather events across Southeast Asia.
