Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to convene a virtual meeting with chief ministers of states and lieutenant governors of Union Territories today to discuss the ongoing West Asia conflict and review India’s preparedness, officials said.
The interaction — scheduled for Friday evening — will focus on coordinated readiness across states, possible disruptions to energy supplies, supply chain stability and safety of Indian citizens abroad amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Government sources noted that chief ministers from states where elections are underway or the model code of conduct is in force may not participate in the virtual discussion.
Officials have underlined the importance of a unified “Team India” approach to address any challenges arising from the conflict, including implications for fuel security, distribution of LPG and petroleum products, and efforts to ensure uninterrupted essential services.
This meeting comes as the government continues diplomatic and strategic engagement amid tensions that have affected global energy markets and raised concerns over the safety of Indian nationals in Gulf countries.
India has maintained a balanced position in the West Asia crisis, emphasising dialogue and de‑escalation, while closely monitoring developments that could impact domestic economic conditions and energy imports.
Prime Minister Modi has previously addressed Parliament on the matter, warning that the conflict’s effects on global conditions could be long‑lasting and calling for collective preparedness similar to the collaborative responses during the COVID‑19 pandemic.
The virtual meeting is part of broader efforts by the Centre to work with state governments to manage possible contingencies resulting from the geopolitical situation in West Asia.
