Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been transferred to a hospital after her health suddenly worsened while in prison. The incident has raised serious concerns among supporters and international observers.
According to her foundation, Mohammadi lost consciousness twice and suffered a severe cardiac episode. Prison doctors reportedly decided that her condition could not be treated inside the facility, making hospital transfer necessary.
The health emergency occurred while she was being held in a prison in Zanjan, located in northwestern Iran. Reports indicate that she fainted inside the prison before being taken for urgent medical care.
Her lawyers had earlier stated that she may have suffered a heart related problem in March. During a visit, they observed that she appeared weak, underweight, and required assistance to walk.
Mohammadi has been in custody since December after being arrested during a visit to the city of Mashhad. In February, she was sentenced to more than seven years in prison on charges related to alleged actions against state security.
Her family has expressed concern over her health condition, stating that it has worsened during her time in detention. They have also claimed that she faced physical mistreatment at the time of her arrest.
International attention has increased following her health crisis. The Nobel Committee had earlier condemned what it described as serious mistreatment and called for better conditions for her.
The Iranian government has not publicly responded to the claims made by her family and supporters regarding her treatment. The situation remains sensitive and continues to draw global attention.
Overall, the case of Narges Mohammadi highlights ongoing concerns about human rights and prisoner health conditions. Her current condition is being closely watched by supporters and organizations around the world.
