NASA successfully launched its first crewed Moon mission in more than 50 years, marking a historic milestone in space exploration. The Artemis II mission lifted off from Cape Canaveral aboard the Orion capsule, powered by the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, carrying four astronauts toward lunar orbit.
The crew includes Christina Koch, Victor Glover, Reid Wiseman, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. The mission, expected to last around 10 days, will see the team orbit the Moon before safely returning to Earth, testing critical systems for future deep space missions.
Shortly after launch, the spacecraft successfully entered Earth’s orbit, where astronauts are conducting safety checks and testing manual piloting capabilities. If all systems perform as expected, the crew will proceed toward the Moon, completing a multi-day journey around it—marking humanity’s return to deep space travel since the Apollo program.
The Artemis II mission is a key step toward NASA’s long-term goal of landing humans on the Moon again by 2028. The launch drew massive public attention, with thousands witnessing the historic moment, as space agencies worldwide look ahead to a new era of lunar exploration and international collaboration.
