Nissan to Cut Models, Expand AI Driving Tech

Nissan to Cut Models, Expand AI Driving Tech

Post by : Shakul

Nissan has announced a major global strategy to streamline its vehicle lineup and significantly expand the use of artificial intelligence in its cars. The move is part of a broader effort to revive growth after years of financial and operational challenges.

The company revealed plans to reduce its global model lineup from 56 to 45 vehicles, focusing on eliminating underperforming models and improving overall profitability. This leaner approach is expected to strengthen Nissan’s position in key global markets.

CEO Ivan Espinosa outlined the company’s vision to integrate AI-based driving technology into 90% of its vehicles over the long term. This initiative aims to enhance safety, automation, and overall driving experience.

As part of its product strategy, Nissan unveiled new models, including a hybrid version of the Rogue SUV (X-Trail in Japan) and an electric version of the Juke. These launches reflect the company’s focus on hybrid and electric mobility solutions.

Nissan is targeting ambitious sales goals, aiming to achieve annual sales of 1 million vehicles each in the United States and China by 2030, while also increasing its domestic sales in Japan to 550,000 units.

The company is also restructuring its operations by reducing its global manufacturing footprint and cutting its workforce by 15%. At the same time, it plans to expand exports from China to regions such as ASEAN, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Looking ahead, Nissan is investing in future mobility technologies, including autonomous driving systems and robotaxi partnerships. The company plans to launch a pilot robotaxi program in Tokyo by 2026, marking a significant step toward next-generation transportation solutions.
