BEIJING: North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui met China’s top diplomat Wang Yi in Beijing on Sunday, marking her second visit to the Chinese capital within a month, according to official reports from both countries.
During the meeting, Wang said that China is ready to enhance coordination and cooperation with North Korea in regional and international affairs. Choe, representing North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, conveyed that the relationship between the two nations remains strong and should continue to adapt to changing global circumstances.
Analysts say Kim Jong Un is looking to restore North Korea’s international presence. Earlier in September, he visited Beijing to attend a major military parade alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, signaling support for his country’s nuclear ambitions.
Choe noted that the recent summit between Xi and Kim had established a framework for the bilateral relationship, emphasizing the need to respond to global developments. Wang also briefed Choe on China’s domestic affairs and suggested increased exchanges on governance between the two nations.
The meeting comes ahead of Xi’s planned visit to South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled from October 31 to November 1. South Korea also expects US President Donald Trump may attend, though Washington has not officially confirmed.
This visit highlights continued diplomatic engagement between Beijing and Pyongyang, reinforcing their longstanding political and strategic alliance.
