Oman Starts Asian Games Qualifiers With Win

Post by : Shakul

Oman national cricket team started its campaign in the Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026” qualifiers with a narrow but crucial 7-run victory over Singapore in Group B action held in Singapore.

The match was part of the qualification tournament taking place from May 31 to June 9, where Asian teams are competing for limited spots in the upcoming Asian Games scheduled in Japan from September 17 to October 3, 2026.

Oman’s victory gives the team an early boost in the group stage as they aim to secure one of the four available qualification spots for the continental event.

The team is scheduled to face Bahrain next, followed by a match against Hong Kong, which will be key fixtures in their qualification journey.

According to the tournament format, the top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage, where the final four teams will earn qualification for the Asian Games cricket competition.

Oman is competing with a young squad supported by experienced players, including Sufyan Mahmoud, alongside several promising talents such as Mohammed Al-Balushi, Zubair Al-Balushi, Issa Al-Balushi, and others.

The team is guided by coach Sultan Ahmed, with support staff including Parvez Al-Balushi and team manager Saeed Haider Al-Balushi, focusing on building a strong future-ready cricket structure for Oman.

The qualifiers feature two groups after some teams, including Thailand and South Korea, withdrew from the competition, reshaping the tournament lineup.

Oman now competes in Group B alongside Singapore, Bahrain, and Hong Kong, while Group A includes Nepal, China, and Malaysia.

The top four teams from the qualifiers will join major cricket nations such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and host Japan in the Asian Games cricket tournament.
