Oman has taken a significant step toward strengthening its healthcare system after the Ministry of Health signed a funding agreement worth RO 560,000 to establish an integrated lung disease unit at Khoula Hospital in Muscat. The project is being supported by Al Yusr Charitable Foundation and is expected to enhance specialized respiratory care services across the Sultanate.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed Al-Alawi, Director General of Khoula Hospital, and Omar bin Mohammed Al-Farsi, Director General of Al Yusr Charitable Foundation. The initiative reflects a growing partnership between public institutions and community organizations aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to advanced medical services.
The new facility aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and the Ministry of Health’s objective of delivering sustainable and high-quality healthcare services for all citizens. Authorities believe the project will strengthen the country's ability to diagnose and treat respiratory illnesses while responding to the increasing demand for specialized pulmonary care.
According to Dr. Rashid Al-Alawi, the integrated lung disease unit will introduce advanced medical technologies that meet international healthcare standards. The facility is expected to become operational early next year and will help reduce patient waiting times while providing faster and more accurate diagnoses for respiratory conditions.
The unit will house a range of specialized services under one roof, including micro-bronchoscopy procedures, respiratory efficiency testing, and sleep disorder diagnosis and treatment. By combining these services in a single center, healthcare professionals aim to deliver a more comprehensive and efficient patient experience.
Medical experts believe the project will improve treatment outcomes by enabling earlier diagnosis and reducing complications associated with respiratory diseases. The presence of modern diagnostic equipment and highly trained specialists from Khoula Hospital and Al Nahda Hospital will further strengthen the quality of care available to patients.
Officials emphasized that the initiative goes beyond infrastructure development. It represents an investment in patient safety, medical innovation, and national healthcare readiness. The project is also expected to support local medical professionals by creating opportunities for specialized training and professional development.
Al Yusr Charitable Foundation described the project as part of its ongoing commitment to social responsibility and healthcare support. The foundation stated that the new unit will improve healthcare delivery, accelerate medical response times, and contribute to building a stronger and more resilient healthcare system for Oman’s future.
