Oman has taken another major step toward expanding its tourism sector after signing two new usufruct agreements for hospitality projects valued at more than 12 million Omani riyals. The developments include a four-star resort in Al Hamra, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, and a five-star hotel in Mirbat, Dhofar Governorate, both aimed at strengthening the country's tourism infrastructure and supporting economic diversification goals.
The agreements were signed by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism as part of its long-term strategy to attract private investment and enhance tourism offerings across the Sultanate. Officials believe the projects will create new employment opportunities, stimulate local economies, and increase the availability of quality accommodation for domestic and international visitors.
According to the Ministry, the investments are aligned with national efforts to diversify income sources beyond traditional sectors. Tourism has emerged as one of the key pillars of Oman’s economic development strategy, with authorities focusing on developing destinations that combine cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern hospitality services.
The larger of the two projects is a four-star resort in Al Hamra, which will be developed by Al Zahra Hospitality Services Company. The resort will be built on a 25,000-square-meter site with an investment value of approximately RO 9.87 million. The project is designed to become an integrated tourism destination that blends adventure tourism, relaxation experiences, and environmentally sustainable practices.
Located near some of Oman’s most scenic mountain landscapes, the resort is expected to attract travelers seeking outdoor activities, nature exploration, and cultural experiences. Officials say the project will help showcase the unique tourism assets of Al Hamra, including mountain trails, valleys, and traditional heritage attractions.
The second project involves the construction of a five-star hotel in Mirbat by Zillal Tourism Company. Built on a 55,000-square-meter site with an investment cost of around RO 3 million, the hotel will feature 121 guest rooms, restaurants, cafés, conference and event facilities, sports areas, swimming pools, and other leisure amenities designed to cater to both business and leisure travelers.
Tourism officials highlighted Mirbat’s growing importance as a destination within Dhofar Governorate, known for its coastal beauty, historical sites, and seasonal tourism appeal. The new luxury hotel is expected to strengthen the region’s hospitality capacity and support year-round visitor growth.
Industry observers believe these projects will contribute significantly to Oman’s tourism expansion plans while creating opportunities for local businesses and communities. By combining high-quality accommodation with unique natural and cultural attractions, Oman continues to position itself as a competitive destination in the regional tourism market.
