Wheat harvesting is currently underway in the Al Najd agricultural area of Dhofar Governorate, marking an important phase of Oman’s 2025–2026 agricultural season. The initiative reflects the country’s growing focus on strengthening food security and boosting local agricultural production.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is actively supervising the process, with 51 farms participating in the harvest across a total area of 6,408 acres. This expansion highlights a steady increase in wheat cultivation in the region.
Officials stated that this step aligns with Oman’s broader strategy to enhance self-sufficiency in food production and reduce reliance on imports. The ongoing efforts demonstrate a clear commitment to sustainable agricultural development.
According to Eng. Said bin Musallam Al Kathiri, several wheat varieties are being cultivated this season, including Najd 1, Najd 2, Australian wheat, Qurayat 110, Qurayat 226, and Qurayat 308, all of which are suitable for the region’s environmental conditions.
He added that the harvesting season is expected to continue for approximately two months, allowing for efficient collection and management of the crop across all participating farms.
The Ministry is supporting farmers by providing modern machinery and technical assistance to improve productivity. Additionally, Oman Mills Company will receive the harvested output, which is expected to exceed 8,000 tons across the Sultanate during this season.
Officials emphasized that wheat cultivation in the Najd area is a key initiative in promoting agricultural sustainability, contributing to Oman’s long-term goal of achieving food security and economic stability.
