Rajinikanth, the legendary Indian actor fondly called "Thalaiva" by millions of fans, turned 75 on December 12, 2025, marking yet another milestone in his remarkable journey in Indian cinema. Known for his humility as much as his on-screen charisma, Rajinikanth has consistently impressed colleagues and fans with his grounded nature despite his superstar status.
In an interview shared by director Pankaj Parashar, who collaborated with Rajinikanth on the 1989 film Chaalbaaz, he recalled the actor’s extraordinary blend of talent and simplicity. Parashar highlighted Rajinikanth’s unique approach to acting, noting that when he realized Chaalbaaz was primarily Sridevi’s film, he deliberately shaped his role as the underdog, a man who gets scared, instead of overshadowing the lead. His improvisation and willingness to embrace vulnerability on-screen made him instantly relatable and deeply loved by audiences.
Parashar also shared fond anecdotes of Rajinikanth on set, illustrating his playful and respectful nature. He described how the superstar would greet Sridevi with a bow and a cheerful call of “Srideva!” developing a unique playful rapport with the actress that charmed the entire crew. Even off-camera, Rajinikanth’s simplicity shone through. Parashar remembered how Rajinikanth drove himself around in a vintage 1960s Fiat without any assistants or managers. On one occasion, while offering Parashar a ride to his hotel on a sweltering day with a broken car AC, Rajinikanth worried about causing a stir among fans. As expected, his presence created instant chaos, with fans and even mothers placing babies on the car’s bonnet for blessings, forcing police intervention.
Despite decades of superstardom and immense adoration, Rajinikanth maintains a disciplined routine to stay grounded. He revealed to Parashar that he often retreats to the mountains for 10-12 days, living in a temple where he cleans floors and sleeps on the ground, a practice he follows to remain humble and connected to life beyond fame.
Rajinikanth’s influence extends beyond Tamil cinema; over his four-decade career, he has appeared in numerous films across multiple languages including Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and English. His legacy was further celebrated at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his five decades of contribution to Indian cinema.
Even today, Rajinikanth remains an icon of humility and dedication, demonstrating that true stardom is measured not just by box office success but by the grace, respect, and humanity one carries off-screen. His story continues to inspire millions of fans worldwide, making him not only a cinematic legend but also a symbol of grounded excellence in the world of entertainment.
This comprehensive look at Rajinikanth’s life and philosophy showcases the enduring charm, humility, and dedication of one of Indian cinema’s greatest stars, celebrating his 75th birthday in true fanfare.
