Malaysian actress Scha Alyahya believes the country’s entertainment industry is currently entering a golden phase, driven by major improvements in storytelling, cinematography, and creative confidence among local artists. The actress shared her thoughts while promoting her latest film project, Kata Hati, which is scheduled for nationwide release on June 4.
Scha, whose real name is Sharifah Nor Azean, has remained one of the most recognizable names in Malaysian entertainment since the 2000s. Over the years, she has built a successful career through popular films such as Histeria, Papadom, and Evolusi KL Drift 2, along with television projects including Awan Dania and Prebet Jamilah.
Reflecting on the changes she has witnessed in the industry, Scha said modern actors are now more open, expressive, and confident in sharing ideas compared to earlier years. According to her, newcomers in the past often felt afraid to question directors or contribute creatively during production processes.
The actress explained that the environment within Malaysian productions has evolved significantly, allowing performers to discuss scenes more freely and express concerns whenever they feel uncomfortable. She described this shift as one of the biggest transformations she has experienced throughout her acting career.
Scha also praised the rapid improvement in the technical and creative quality of Malaysian films and television series. She believes local filmmakers are now producing projects that can compete at a much higher standard, especially in terms of visual storytelling, cinematography, and originality.
Speaking about Kata Hati, directed by Nadiah Hamzah, Scha said the film combines romance, comedy, and action in a fresh and unique way rarely seen before in local cinema. In the movie, she portrays the character Maya and highlighted that the emotional core of the story revolves around family relationships and sisterhood.
According to Scha, one of the strongest messages in the film is the emotional bond between siblings, especially how older sisters often carry responsibilities similar to mothers within families. She said the movie encourages audiences not to take their loved ones for granted and reflects real-life emotional struggles many families experience.
Despite spending years in the entertainment industry, Scha said she has no plans to slow down. The actress revealed that she hopes to continue taking on more acting roles because every project allows her to further improve her craft and explore different characters.
Apart from Kata Hati, Scha is also involved in the upcoming film 5 Bomoh directed by Syed Fariz and continues appearing in the iQIYI series Griya, which is currently streaming online.
