The newly launched Shah Alam Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) has made an impressive start, recording more than 60,000 passenger trips on its first full day of operations. According to Rapid KL, the figure includes train services, feeder buses and the Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD) service, highlighting strong public interest in the new transport network.
Train Services Lead Passenger Numbers
Rapid KL reported that 58,865 trips were made on LRT3 trains, while 3,319 journeys were recorded through first-and-last-mile services. Of these, 1,883 passengers used feeder buses and 1,436 commuters travelled using the Rapid KL On-Demand service, creating a fully integrated transport experience.
Why Is LRT3 Receiving Strong Ridership?
The Shah Alam LRT3 connects residential neighbourhoods with business districts, educational institutions and commercial centres across Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang. Improved connectivity, seamless transfers and integrated transport services have encouraged thousands of commuters to choose the new rail line on its opening day.
Rapid KL Sees Positive Public Acceptance
Prasarana Malaysia President and Group CEO Amir Hamdan described the first-day performance as an encouraging sign of growing demand for reliable public transport. He said the company will continue monitoring passenger trends, operational efficiency and customer feedback to further improve the travel experience.

Free Travel Offered Until End of July
To ensure smooth operations, Rapid KL has deployed station staff and Rapid Troopers across all stations to assist passengers with transfers and station facilities. The operator also confirmed that free travel on the Shah Alam LRT3 and its feeder bus services will continue until July 31, allowing more commuters to experience the new network.
What Does This Mean for Malaysia's Transport Network?
The strong first-day ridership reflects increasing demand for efficient public transportation in the Klang Valley. The successful launch of LRT3 is expected to reduce road congestion, improve urban mobility and support Malaysia's long-term investment in sustainable public transport infrastructure.
