Singapore authorities have denied entry to Malaysian activist Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, citing concerns over her alleged involvement in political activism and promotion of disruptive advocacy. The decision was confirmed by Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs, which described her as an “undesirable visitor”.
According to officials, Fadiah had reportedly encouraged youths in Singapore to adopt what authorities called a “radical advocacy” approach. The ministry further alleged that she promoted actions beyond peaceful protest, including mobilising communities for potentially disruptive activities.
The activist attempted to enter Singapore on March 22 but was issued a notice of refusal at the Woodlands checkpoint. While she sought clarification from immigration officers, she was reportedly informed that the reasons for the denial could not be disclosed under current policies.
Fadiah later shared her experience on social media, stating that she had travelled to Singapore after being invited to deliver a guest lecture. She also intended to collect her academic materials after completing her PhD at the National University of Singapore in 2025.
The case highlights Singapore’s strict stance against foreign involvement in domestic politics. Authorities have reiterated that they will not tolerate activities deemed to promote unlawful or disruptive actions within the country.
