Singapore is set to see an increase in electricity and gas tariffs from April to June 2026, driven by rising global fuel costs and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Grid operator SP Group announced that household electricity tariffs will rise by 2.1% to 29.72 cents per kilowatt-hour. This will result in a slight increase in monthly bills, with average households in four-room flats paying nearly $2 more.
At the same time, gas supplier City Energy confirmed that town gas tariffs will also increase, reflecting higher input costs. The Energy Market Authority explained that the price adjustments are based on fuel costs recorded between January and mid-March.
Singapore relies heavily on imported natural gas, which accounts for about 95% of its electricity generation. As global fuel prices continue to rise due to supply disruptions and conflict in the Middle East, energy costs in the country are expected to remain volatile.
Officials have warned that the current increase only partially reflects the rise in fuel prices, with more significant hikes likely in the coming months if global conditions remain unstable.
Experts say the move signals the beginning of a broader adjustment in energy pricing, as governments worldwide respond to prolonged uncertainty in oil and gas markets. Consumers have been advised to conserve energy and prepare for higher utility costs throughout 2026.
