Switzerland secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Algeria to book their place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 after a disciplined and confident display in Vancouver. The Swiss controlled the match from the opening whistle and converted their chances at crucial moments to seal qualification.
The victory means Switzerland will now face the winner of the Round of 32 clash between Colombia and Ghana as they continue their World Cup campaign.
Embolo Opens the Scoring
The breakthrough came after an impressive run by Johan Manzambi, who raced down the left flank before delivering a precise cross into the penalty area. Breel Embolo made no mistake, calmly tapping the ball into the net to give Switzerland a deserved first-half lead.
Algeria attempted to respond but struggled to create clear opportunities against Switzerland's organized defensive structure and disciplined midfield.
Ndoye Seals the Victory
Switzerland doubled their advantage when Dan Ndoye fired a powerful effort through a crowded penalty area. Algerian goalkeeper Luca Zidane managed to get a hand to the ball but was unable to stop it from crossing the line.
