Taiwan has issued fresh heavy rain alerts after days of intense rainfall caused widespread flooding across the island and claimed the lives of two people. Weather authorities warned that several regions remain at risk of further flooding and landslides despite forecasts suggesting conditions may gradually improve.
Yunlin Faces Highest Rainfall Risk
The Central Weather Administration issued torrential and extremely heavy rain warnings for Yunlin County, where rainfall could exceed 200 millimetres within 24 hours. Heavy rain advisories also remain in effect for several parts of central, southern, eastern, and northern Taiwan, including Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung.
Flooding Hits Hundreds of Areas
Authorities reported that 487 flooding incidents have been recorded across Taiwan since Thursday. As of Friday, at least 74 locations remained underwater, with emergency teams continuing drainage operations and monitoring flood-prone communities.
Officials Warn of Landslides and Flash Floods
Residents living in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert as the threat of flash floods, landslides and other weather-related hazards continues. Emergency services remain on standby while local governments monitor changing weather conditions.
Authorities Continue Emergency Response
Government agencies are working with disaster response teams to assist affected communities and restore normal conditions. Officials said weather monitoring will continue around the clock to ensure timely warnings if rainfall intensifies again.

Weather Conditions Expected to Improve
Forecasters expect rainfall to gradually ease later on Saturday, but authorities have urged the public not to lower their guard until all warnings are officially lifted. People have been encouraged to avoid flooded roads and follow local safety advisories.

Officials said emergency response efforts will continue until floodwaters recede completely. Taiwan's disaster management agencies remain focused on protecting lives and minimizing damage as severe weather continues to affect parts of the island.
