Thai Sailors Return After Gulf Ship Attack

Thai Sailors Return After Gulf Ship Attack

Post by : Shakul

Twenty crew members from a Thai cargo vessel attacked in the strategic Strait of Hormuz have safely returned to Thailand, while three sailors remain stranded aboard the damaged ship in the Gulf region.

The sailors arrived early Monday at the main international airport in Bangkok after being rescued by the Royal Omani Navy following the attack on their vessel, the Mayuree Naree.

According to officials, the Thai-registered cargo ship was struck by two projectiles while passing through the narrow waterway after departing from a port in the United Arab Emirates.

The attack was later claimed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran, which said the vessel ignored security warnings issued during the ongoing regional conflict.

Shipping company Precious Shipping confirmed that three crew members are still missing and are believed to be trapped in the vessel’s engine room, which was severely damaged during the strike.

The company said its highest priority is locating and rescuing the remaining sailors while providing medical and psychological support to the rescued crew members.

Thailand’s foreign ministry said it is coordinating with international partners to assist with the rescue efforts.

The attack occurred amid rising tensions in the Middle East after military strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iranian targets triggered a broader regional conflict.

The situation has increased risks to global shipping routes, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime corridor that carries nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply.

Security analysts warn that continued attacks on commercial vessels could disrupt international trade and energy markets, raising concerns among shipping companies and governments worldwide.

Families of the returning sailors gathered at the airport in Bangkok awaiting reunions, while relatives of the missing crew continue to hope for their safe rescue.
