The Thai government has officially dismissed widespread rumors claiming that Ebola virus disease has entered the country, emphasizing that no confirmed Ebola cases have been detected in Thailand. Authorities have urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unverified reports circulating on social media platforms.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the false claim became one of the most widely shared pieces of misinformation identified by the Thailand Anti-Fake News Center (AFNC). Officials stressed that the government remains committed to combating fake news while ensuring public awareness regarding health and safety matters.
The clarification came after a female traveler from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country where Ebola outbreaks have previously been reported, arrived in Thailand. Upon her arrival, health authorities followed standard disease prevention procedures and transferred her to the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute for observation and assessment.
Health officials reported that the traveler showed no history of exposure to Ebola and did not meet the criteria for a suspected Ebola infection case. Investigations confirmed that she had already arranged travel plans to return to her country of origin, further reducing concerns about any potential public health risk.
Government representatives emphasized that the case was handled under routine disease surveillance protocols that are regularly implemented for travelers arriving from regions affected by infectious diseases. Authorities noted that these precautionary measures are designed to ensure rapid detection and prevention of any potential health threats.
The Ministry of Public Health has instructed the Department of Disease Control to continue monitoring passengers arriving from countries where dangerous infectious diseases may be present, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Surveillance measures remain active at points of entry across the country.
Data collected between May 21 and May 25, 2026, showed that 53 travelers arriving from monitored regions were screened by health officials. No individuals were found to meet the criteria for disease investigation, and no Ebola-related cases were detected during that period.
Officials reiterated that Thailand’s public health system remains vigilant and fully prepared to respond to infectious disease threats. The government has encouraged citizens to verify information through official channels and avoid unnecessary panic caused by false or misleading reports circulating online.
