Thailand Begins IMF-World Bank 2026 Plans

Thailand Begins IMF-World Bank 2026 Plans

Post by : Shakul

Anutin Charnvirakul has launched nationwide preparations for the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which Thailand will host from October 12 to 18, 2026. The Thai government believes the major international event will provide a significant boost to the country’s economy, tourism industry and global image while bringing thousands of influential delegates to Bangkok.

The first meeting of the National Committee for the preparation of the event was held at Government House in Bangkok. During the meeting, the Prime Minister described the IMF–World Bank annual gathering as one of the world’s most important financial and economic forums, often compared to the “Olympics of finance and fiscal policy.” Thailand was selected to host the event for the second time in its history, making it one of only three countries worldwide to receive this opportunity twice. Officials said the selection reflects growing international confidence in Thailand’s economic and diplomatic role.

The conference is expected to attract more than 15,000 participants from 189 countries, including heads of government, central bank governors, financial experts, investors, business leaders and international media representatives. The main sessions will be held at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center along with nearly 1,000 smaller meetings and side events across the city. Authorities expect the event to create substantial economic activity and generate strong demand for hotels, restaurants, transportation and tourism services.

Prime Minister Anutin stated that hosting the event is not only about organising a global conference but also about presenting Thailand’s culture, innovation and national identity to the international community. Officials said Thai fabrics, local products and sustainable design concepts will be incorporated into the event to promote Thai businesses and support local entrepreneurs. The government also plans to organise the summit under environmentally friendly “Green Meeting” standards using reusable materials and sustainability-focused operations.

The Thai government approved the formation of three specialised subcommittees to oversee preparations in different areas. These committees will manage conference operations, ceremonial activities, administration, security, traffic control and public health arrangements. The Prime Minister stressed that security measures must be implemented strictly to ensure the safety of all international delegates and visitors attending the summit next year.

Authorities also introduced the official theme for the conference: “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience.” The concept highlights Thailand’s vision for sustainable economic development and reflects the philosophy of the late Bhumibol Adulyadej, whose 100th birth anniversary will be marked next year. Discussions during the summit are expected to focus on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, climate change, demographic shifts and changes in the global economy and geopolitics.

Government officials believe the IMF–World Bank meetings will strengthen Thailand’s international reputation and create long-term economic opportunities. The Prime Minister urged all sectors of society, including businesses, volunteers, public agencies and ordinary citizens, to work together to welcome global visitors and showcase Thailand’s hospitality and readiness to the world. Authorities say the event represents an important chance to increase investor confidence and support long-term tourism and economic growth for the country.
