Thailand has launched its first-ever Thai-language e-learning program focused on investigative interviewing for criminal investigations, marking a significant step toward improving professional standards within the country's justice system. The initiative aims to provide investigators and legal professionals with internationally recognized training while promoting human rights-based investigation practices.
The launch event was attended by senior representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, the Norwegian Embassy, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Thailand Institute of Justice. The program reflects a growing commitment to modernizing investigative procedures and strengthening the quality of criminal investigations in Thailand.
Police Colonel Itthikorn Chiratnanon, Secretary to the Minister of Justice, attended the event on behalf of the Minister of Justice. The gathering brought together professionals from investigative agencies, prosecutors' offices, human resource departments, and various institutions involved in the administration of justice.
The new learning platform was developed through a collaborative effort involving the Thailand Institute of Justice, UNODC, the Legal Studies Institute of the Office of the Attorney General, and the University of Oslo. The project introduces internationally recognized investigative interviewing techniques that have now been translated into Thai for the first time, making advanced training more accessible to local practitioners.
Officials emphasized that effective investigative interviewing plays a crucial role in criminal justice systems. Proper interviewing methods can improve evidence gathering, reduce the risk of wrongful accusations, and ensure that investigations are conducted fairly while respecting the rights and dignity of all individuals involved.
The online format is expected to expand access to professional development opportunities across the country. Investigators from different regions will be able to access high-quality educational resources regardless of their location, helping to establish consistent standards and best practices throughout Thailand’s law enforcement and justice sectors.
Authorities believe the program will contribute to long-term improvements in investigative capacity, transparency, and accountability. By integrating international expertise with local training needs, Thailand hopes to strengthen public trust in the justice system while ensuring that investigative procedures remain aligned with global standards and human rights principles.
