Thailand has taken a significant step toward strengthening regional development as Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a key meeting focused on improving economic planning and governance. The meeting aimed to streamline development efforts and enhance the quality of life for citizens across the country.
The meeting was held on April 23, 2026, at the Government House in Bangkok, where senior officials, deputy prime ministers, and representatives from multiple government agencies gathered to discuss integrated area-based management policies for the year.
During the session, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of reducing duplication in government projects and ensuring efficient use of resources. He highlighted that effective budget management is crucial in addressing current economic challenges and delivering meaningful outcomes for the public.
The government also announced the appointment of deputy prime ministers to lead six regional subcommittees. These panels will be responsible for overseeing development initiatives in different parts of the country, ensuring that policies are tailored to local needs and conditions.
A major focus of the discussion was on aligning the 2027 budget with national priorities. The Prime Minister stressed that budget allocation should promote tourism, support grassroots economic growth, and address key social issues while maximizing benefits for citizens.
Officials were also encouraged to involve local representatives more actively in decision-making processes. Provincial governors and regional leaders have been instructed to gather public feedback and ensure that development plans reflect the actual needs of communities.
The government has allocated a total budget of 28 billion baht for regional development, with 19.6 billion baht designated for 76 provinces and 8.4 billion baht for 18 provincial clusters. This initiative reflects Thailand’s commitment to balanced growth and improved living standards nationwide.
