Thailand Upgrades School Safety For New Term

Thailand Upgrades School Safety For New Term

Post by : Shakul

Thailand is accelerating nationwide efforts to improve school safety and education quality ahead of the start of the 2026 academic year. The government, under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is working with multiple agencies to strengthen learning standards, improve school infrastructure and reduce the financial burden on parents during the new school term.

Deputy government spokesperson Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana said most schools under the Office of the Basic Education Commission are scheduled to reopen on May 18, 2026, while some institutions will begin classes gradually from May 14. Authorities are currently inspecting schools across the country to ensure that electrical systems, classrooms, playgrounds, learning equipment and teacher housing meet proper safety standards.

Officials explained that the Ministry of Education has also launched workshops to advance five key educational missions under the “All for Education” approach. The programme encourages cooperation between teachers, educational personnel and various sectors to create a more practical and modern education system that responds to the real needs of students and communities.

As part of the government’s Quick Win initiatives, the Ministry of Education will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on May 15 with 18 agencies to establish a comprehensive student safety system. The partnership includes cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police and social welfare organisations to strengthen prevention, emergency support and student protection measures nationwide.

The government is also introducing measures to reduce the cost of living for parents during the back-to-school period. Through the “Back To School 2026” campaign, the Ministry of Commerce is offering discounts of up to 86 percent on more than 1,000 educational products and services including school uniforms, books, learning materials and IT equipment.

Officials said the discounts are available at department stores, government-supported shops and online platforms across Thailand from April 30 to May 31, 2026. Authorities expect the campaign to help families collectively save at least 300 million baht during the school reopening season.

In addition, the Cabinet has approved higher student subsidies for the 2026 fiscal year covering both the second semester of the 2025 academic session and the first semester of the 2026 academic year. The increased subsidies apply across all educational levels including pre-primary, primary and secondary education.

Government officials stated that the financial support will also cover school uniforms, learning materials and additional assistance for small schools in rural areas. The initiative is aimed at ensuring equal access to education while reducing financial pressure on families and improving educational opportunities for students nationwide.

Authorities said the overall education reform and safety programme is designed to help Thai students learn in safer and more supportive environments. Officials expressed hope that improved infrastructure, stronger safety systems and financial support measures will contribute to long-term educational development and better opportunities for young people across the country.
