Satellite images captured in February 2026 have revealed a marked increase in the number of U.S. military aircraft stationed at Prince Sultan Airbase in Saudi Arabia, a facility long used by U.S. forces, as tensions with Iran intensify.
High-resolution imagery taken on February 21 showed at least 43 aircraft on the base’s tarmac — up sharply from 27 aircraft visible in images from February 17, according to analysts. By February 25, that number had slightly declined to around 38.
The increase included a variety of support and specialised planes such as Boeing KC-135 Stratotankers, which provide mid-air refuelling, and Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS airborne warning and control aircraft.
Analysts say the build-up reflects a broader U.S. effort to reinforce its military posture in the Middle East amid mounting concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional activities. While the Pentagon typically does not comment on specific force movements, satellite data points to a larger reinforcement of assets across neighbouring bases as well.
Saudi Arabia, a long-time U.S. partner, has reiterated it will not permit its territory to be used for offensive strikes against Iran. Meanwhile, indirect nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran, mediated by Oman, have made only limited progress.
The images and reported aircraft increase are part of a wider pattern of military readiness moves in the region, observed in satellite data showing additional deployments and equipment positioning across multiple allied bases.
