Vietnam Advances Cardiac Care With New Medical Breakthroughs

Vietnam Advances Cardiac Care With New Medical Breakthroughs

Post by : Shakul

Cardiovascular diseases continue to be one of the leading causes of death worldwide and remain a growing public health concern in Vietnam. According to health experts, nearly 200,000 people die from cardiovascular-related illnesses in Vietnam every year, accounting for around one-third of all deaths nationwide.

Health specialists warn that conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and inactive lifestyles significantly increase the risk of heart disease. Many of these conditions can be prevented or managed through early diagnosis and lifestyle changes.

Focus Shifts Toward Prevention and Early Detection

Speaking at the 2026 Annual International Scientific Conference of the Vietnam National Heart Institute, experts emphasized that modern cardiology is increasingly focused on preventing disease before life-threatening complications occur.

Medical professionals highlighted the importance of risk prediction, regular health screenings and comprehensive cardiovascular management. Early intervention is now considered one of the most effective ways to reduce heart attacks, strokes and heart failure.

Advanced Technologies Transform Heart Treatment

The conference showcased several cutting-edge technologies that are changing the way cardiovascular diseases are treated. One of the major highlights was the use of artificial intelligence-supported intravascular ultrasound systems, helping doctors perform complex coronary interventions with greater accuracy.

Experts demonstrated how AI technology is improving diagnostic capabilities, enhancing treatment planning and allowing more personalized care for patients suffering from heart conditions.

New Hope Through Innovative Procedures

Vietnamese cardiologists also highlighted the successful introduction of the IVAC mechanical circulatory support system, which helps stabilize critically ill patients undergoing high-risk cardiac procedures.

Another breakthrough is Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a minimally invasive procedure that allows doctors to replace damaged heart valves without open-heart surgery. The technique offers faster recovery and is especially beneficial for elderly patients and those at high surgical risk.

Next-Generation Treatment for Heart Rhythm Disorders

Experts presented advances in treating atrial fibrillation through Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA), a modern technique that selectively targets heart tissue while minimizing damage to surrounding organs.

Compared with traditional methods, PFA reduces procedure time and improves safety, offering new treatment options for patients suffering from complex heart rhythm disorders.

Bach Mai Hospital Expands Cardiac Services

Bach Mai Hospital reported significant progress in cardiovascular care during the past year. The hospital performed more than 14,000 cardiovascular interventions and over 1,400 heart surgeries while introducing advanced treatments such as heart transplantation, TAVI and modern arrhythmia therapies.

Hospital leaders stated that scientific innovation and investment in medical research remain central to improving treatment outcomes and enhancing patient quality of life.

New Cardiology Center to Serve More Patients

A major milestone will come on June 26 when Bach Mai Hospital officially opens its new Ninh Binh facility. The expansion aims to provide high-quality healthcare services closer to people living outside major urban centers.

Cardiology has been identified as one of the priority specialties at the new facility. Health officials believe the expansion will improve access to advanced heart care for millions of residents in the southern Red River Delta region and neighboring provinces.

Looking Ahead

Medical experts believe Vietnam’s cardiology sector is rapidly approaching international standards through innovation, research and advanced technologies. While treatment methods continue to improve, specialists stress that prevention remains the most effective strategy for reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease and saving lives.
