The Vietnamese government has approved a major national strategy aimed at helping domestic digital technology companies expand internationally and strengthen the country's position in the global digital economy. The plan, approved under Decision No. 982/QD-TTg and signed by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung, sets ambitious goals for export growth, innovation, and global market expansion by 2030.
The initiative seeks to create a highly competitive digital technology sector capable of mastering strategic and core technologies while participating deeply in global value chains. Authorities believe the program will play an important role in supporting economic growth, promoting innovation, and elevating the international reputation of the "Make in Vietnam" technology brand.
Under the strategy, Vietnam aims to have at least 5,000 digital technology companies generating revenue from overseas markets by 2030. Export earnings from digital products and services are expected to reach a minimum of US$55 billion annually, with average yearly growth exceeding 30 percent. The government also wants 60 technology firms to earn at least US$20 million annually from international markets and five companies to surpass US$1 billion in overseas revenue.
The plan places strong emphasis on research and development. Investment resources will be directed toward advanced technologies, innovation programs, and export-oriented digital products developed in Vietnam. Authorities also intend to strengthen cooperation between government agencies, universities, and private enterprises to accelerate technology transfer and develop a highly skilled workforce capable of competing internationally.
Another major component of the strategy focuses on building a stronger global identity for Vietnam’s technology sector. Officials plan to launch international branding campaigns, create multilingual promotional materials, establish national digital storefronts on leading e-commerce platforms, and organize technology forums in strategic foreign markets to showcase Vietnamese products and solutions.
The government will also encourage mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships between Vietnamese and international companies. By 2030, the target is to successfully complete at least 25 international business deals worth US$1 million or more, helping local firms gain access to new markets, technologies, and investment opportunities.
Looking further ahead, Vietnam’s vision for 2045 is to become one of the world's leading digital technology hubs. Officials aim to develop globally recognized technology enterprises capable of shaping international digital trends, contributing to global technology standards, and promoting a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy. The strategy reflects Vietnam’s growing determination to transform itself into a major force in the global technology industry.
