VnExpress Eyes Future as Vietnam’s Knowledge Platform

VnExpress Eyes Future as Vietnam’s Knowledge Platform

Post by : Shakul

Vietnam’s leading online newspaper VnExpress celebrated its 25th anniversary with a ceremony highlighting its role in transforming digital journalism in the country. Speaking at the event, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan praised the newspaper’s pioneering efforts in adopting technology and shaping the future of online media in Vietnam.

The minister noted that launching a fully digital newspaper in the early days of the internet was a bold decision that demonstrated vision and innovation. He said VnExpress helped redefine how Vietnamese readers access information in the digital era.

Technology Drives Journalism Growth

According to Minister Vu Hai Quan, one of VnExpress’s greatest achievements has been its continuous adoption of new technologies. The newspaper has developed interactive platforms, modern digital products and innovative storytelling formats that improve reader engagement.

He added that VnExpress has also played an important role in spreading scientific knowledge, promoting innovation and supporting Vietnam’s broader digital transformation goals.

Trust Becomes Key in the AI Era

Addressing the future of journalism, the minister said artificial intelligence can generate content quickly, but trust remains the most valuable asset for professional news organizations. He emphasized that readers increasingly rely on verified information, expert analysis and responsible reporting.

In an age where misinformation can spread rapidly, trusted media institutions will continue to serve as essential sources of accurate knowledge and public dialogue.

A New Vision for the Next 25 Years

Minister Vu Hai Quan suggested that VnExpress should evolve beyond traditional journalism and become a leading platform for knowledge sharing and community connection among Vietnamese people.

He proposed creating stronger links between readers, experts, scientists and businesses through interactive discussions and knowledge-based communities. According to him, every article should inspire meaningful conversations that generate positive social impact.

From Startup Dream to Media Leader

Editor-in-Chief Pham Hieu reflected on the newspaper’s beginnings in 2000 when a small team of 20 people set out to build Vietnam’s first major online news platform. VnExpress officially launched in 2001 and later became the country's first licensed online-only newspaper.

Over the years, the publication expanded beyond breaking news by introducing data journalism, interactive graphics, videos and specialized forums that encourage public engagement.

Beyond Journalism and Into Society

VnExpress has also contributed to society through initiatives such as AI4VN, Tech Awards, Science Initiatives, the VnExpress Marathon and community-focused programs including the Hope Fund and Hope School.

These projects demonstrate how media organizations can act as connectors between citizens, experts, businesses and policymakers while promoting innovation and social development.

Building on Public Trust

Looking ahead, VnExpress says its greatest achievement is not its massive readership or more than 150 million monthly visits, but the trust it has earned from readers over the past quarter century.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape media worldwide, the newspaper aims to strengthen its role as a reliable source of information while expanding its mission as a platform for knowledge, dialogue and community building.
