The legacy of renowned Malaysian journalist Adibah Amin was celebrated at a special tribute event held in Kuala Lumpur, marking the launch of her book As I Was Passing (Legacy Edition). The event brought together members of the media, literary figures, and admirers to honour her lifelong contributions to journalism and literature.
The ceremony was officiated by Che Puan Muda Zaheeda Mohamad Ariff and organised by Friends of Adibah Amin. Attendees gathered to reflect on her remarkable career and enduring influence across multiple fields, including writing, education, and the arts.
Adibah’s sister, Khalilah Fadzilah Amin, shared an emotional update on her health, revealing that the veteran journalist has been bedridden for the past two years and was unable to attend the event. She expressed gratitude to supporters and apologised on behalf of her sister for her absence.
The Legacy Edition of her book features a curated collection of her most notable columns, along with rare photographs and her personal autograph. The publication aims to preserve her work and make it accessible to future generations.
The event also successfully raised approximately RM100,000, which will go towards supporting Adibah Amin’s medical care. The strong turnout and generous contributions reflected the deep respect and admiration she continues to command.
Speaking at the event, Wong Chun Wai described her as a legendary figure in Malaysian journalism, while A. Kadir Jasin emphasized the importance of keeping her writings alive for younger audiences.
Adibah Amin, aged 90, made history as the first woman to be named National Journalist Laureate in 2023. Her distinguished career includes key editorial roles at major publications, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations of writers and journalists.
