Thailand’s newly appointed Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, Captain Patthadarasmi Thongslueykorn, officially began her duties at Government House in Bangkok by paying respects to sacred shrines and spiritual sites within the government compound. The ceremony marked the beginning of her new role, where she has been assigned responsibility for public communication related to ministries under the Pheu Thai Party and for explaining the government’s future policy direction to the public.

Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Captain Patthadarasmi stated that one of her main priorities would be improving the clarity and accuracy of government communication. She acknowledged recent public confusion surrounding a Cabinet announcement linked to the Foreign Business Act and the proposed ministerial regulation involving eight business categories that would be exempt from requiring foreign business permits.

The controversy emerged after headlines related to the Cabinet’s approval created public misunderstanding about the scope and meaning of the proposal. Critics questioned whether the government was loosening restrictions for foreign businesses without proper controls. In response, Captain Patthadarasmi clarified that the wording of the headlines did not fully explain the actual content and detailed conditions of the proposal.

She explained that the issue may have resulted from communication errors in both the headline and the summary content released to the public. According to her, the complete details of the regulation contain many technical and legal aspects that were not fully reflected in short-form announcements. She urged the public and media organizations to carefully review the full information before drawing conclusions about the government’s intentions.

Captain Patthadarasmi strongly denied allegations of political interference or internal sabotage connected to the incident. She stated that there was no attempt to create political damage following her appointment and confirmed that she had already discussed the matter with senior members of the Pheu Thai Party. According to her, party leaders understood the situation and simply advised greater caution in future communications to avoid public confusion.

The deputy spokesperson also said that effective communication has become increasingly important at a time when government policies are often debated rapidly across social media and digital platforms. She emphasized that public trust depends heavily on accurate and transparent information, especially regarding economic and legal reforms that may directly affect businesses and investors.

The clarification comes amid broader discussions in Thailand regarding economic modernization and regulatory reform. The proposed adjustments under the Foreign Business Act are part of ongoing government efforts to reduce administrative duplication, improve investment flexibility, and increase the country’s competitiveness while maintaining oversight through sector-specific regulations and agencies.

Political observers noted that the issue gained attention because foreign investment and business regulation remain highly sensitive topics in Thailand. The government has repeatedly stressed that any reforms involving foreign business operations will continue to follow strict legal frameworks and will not compromise national interests or local businesses.

Captain Patthadarasmi concluded by reaffirming her commitment to careful and responsible communication in her new role. She stated that the government would continue working to improve public understanding of its policies and ensure that future announcements are presented more clearly to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
