Thailand's government has announced the opening of 16 Premium Clinics under the Department of Medical Services as part of its plan to modernize the country's healthcare system. The initiative aims to reduce overcrowding in hospitals, shorten waiting times and provide patients with greater access to specialized medical treatment.
More Choices for Patients
Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploytalay Laksmisangchan said the new clinics will provide additional options for people seeking faster and more convenient healthcare services. The project also supports the government's goal of making public health services more comprehensive, accessible and efficient for everyone.
Clinics Offer Specialized Medical Care
The Premium Clinics will operate at 16 hospitals and medical institutes under the Department of Medical Services, including Rajavithi Hospital, Lerdsin Hospital, the National Cancer Institute, the Neurological Institute, the Dental Institute and several regional cancer hospitals. Patients will have access to specialist outpatient services and private medical consultations outside regular operating hours.

Services Designed to Reduce Hospital Crowding
The government said expanding specialized outpatient and premium medical services will help reduce pressure on public hospitals by offering alternative treatment options. The initiative is also expected to improve the use of hospital resources while allowing medical staff to provide services more efficiently using modern equipment and advanced healthcare technology.
Different Groups to Benefit
Officials said the clinics are designed to serve patients seeking quicker access to healthcare, individuals with health or life insurance, and foreign nationals requiring specialized treatment. Service charges at Premium Clinics may differ from regular hospital outpatient services depending on the type of care provided.
Expansion Planned Across Thailand
The Department of Medical Services said the Premium Clinic programme will continue expanding in the future to improve healthcare quality and ensure more patients receive timely treatment. Officials believe the initiative will strengthen Thailand's healthcare system while improving the overall quality of life for patients.
