The Department of Highways has temporarily suspended construction work on Rama II Road to facilitate smoother travel during the upcoming Songkran festival.
The decision comes as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion for people traveling to their hometowns or tourist destinations during one of Thailand’s busiest holiday periods. Authorities have restored the main lanes on Rama II Road in both inbound and outbound directions to ensure safe and efficient movement.
The construction site related to the Bang Khun Thian - Ban Phaeo Elevated Expressway project, particularly Sections 4 and 7, has been fully inspected for safety and structural stability following the completion of key installation work.
Officials stated that the temporary halt will remain in place throughout the Songkran festival period, allowing road users to benefit from improved traffic flow and reduced congestion on this major route.
After the holiday period ends, construction activities will resume with necessary traffic management measures. Some lanes will be closed again to continue the lifting and installation of remaining elevated structure components, ensuring safety standards are maintained.
Traffic diversions are scheduled to begin from April 20, 2026, specifically at kilometer markers 26 and 30+500. These diversions will be in effect during daytime hours from 05:00 to 20:00 to minimize disruption.
Authorities aim to complete the remaining construction work and fully restore all main lanes before the start of the school term in mid-May 2026. This timeline is intended to prevent traffic congestion during peak commuting hours.
The Department of Highways has advised the public to stay informed about traffic updates and plan their journeys accordingly. Travelers can also contact the official hotline for real-time road conditions and assistance.
