Thailand Denies Rumours Of Train Service Cuts

Thailand Denies Rumours Of Train Service Cuts

Post by : Shakul

The Thai government has officially confirmed that all 30 social train services across the country are continuing operations normally and have not been cancelled, despite rumors spreading rapidly on social media. Authorities said false reports caused panic among passengers, students, workers, and many people who rely daily on railway transportation.

According to Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, social media users recently circulated images of an internal document from the State Railway of Thailand (SRT). The leaked document appeared to mention plans to suspend 30 social train services and shorten routes for 16 train lines beginning June 1, 2026.

The viral document quickly triggered confusion and anxiety among the public, especially people living in rural areas and low-income communities that depend heavily on affordable train services. Many passengers feared they would lose access to important transportation routes used for education, work, and business activities.

However, the State Railway of Thailand immediately clarified the situation and stated that no social train services will be cancelled or reduced. Officials explained that the circulating memo was only an internal discussion document seeking preliminary approval within management channels and was never officially approved for public release or implementation.

Ms. Ploytalay emphasized that passengers can continue traveling according to normal schedules on all routes without concern. She stated that the government and the Ministry of Transport fully understand the importance of social rail services for the public and would carefully review any future transportation policy changes before making official decisions.

Authorities also stressed that no sudden suspension of train services would happen without proper alternatives for affected passengers. Every proposal regarding railway operations must go through detailed review processes and include consideration of public feedback to avoid creating hardship for communities that depend on rail transport.

The government urged citizens not to share or forward unverified documents and rumors online, warning that false information can create unnecessary panic and misunderstanding. Officials advised the public to rely only on official announcements and verified railway updates from government channels.

Passengers can check train schedules and service information through the official State Railway of Thailand website, the train tracking system, the SRT PR Team Facebook page, or the 24-hour customer service hotline 1690. Officials reaffirmed that railway operations across Thailand continue as normal and public transportation services remain fully active.
