Vietnam Launches 500-Day Campaign for Fallen Soldiers

Vietnam Launches 500-Day Campaign for Fallen Soldiers

Post by : Shakul

Vietnam's Military Region 9 has officially launched a 500-day campaign aimed at searching for fallen soldiers and identifying thousands of unknown war heroes. The campaign will continue until July 2027 and is part of preparations for the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's War Invalids and Martyrs Day.

Thousands of DNA Samples to Be Collected

Under the campaign, military authorities plan to recover around 1,450 sets of remains of fallen soldiers while collecting biological samples from 40,928 unidentified graves for DNA testing. Officials say the initiative is expected to help thousands of families finally identify relatives who have remained missing since the war.

Advanced Technology Supports Identification

DNA testing has become a key part of Vietnam's effort to identify unknown martyrs. Authorities believe building a national DNA database will improve identification efforts, as nearly 300,000 unidentified graves still exist across the country. Every collected sample is expected to increase the chances of restoring the identities of fallen soldiers.

Search Teams Continue Cross-Border Missions

Military search teams, including K91, K92 and K93, continue searching former battlefields in Vietnam and Cambodia despite difficult terrain and limited information.

During the latest operation, Team K91 recovered 65 sets of remains, including 44 in Cambodia and 21 in Vietnam after months of field investigations.

Campaign Reflects National Gratitude

Military Region 9 officials said every recovered set of remains represents another family receiving long-awaited answers. Alongside DNA collection, authorities will restore martyrs' cemeteries and continue cooperation with Cambodian authorities to expand search operations in border areas.

Mission to Continue Until 2027

Vietnam's military plans to complete DNA sample collection from all 40,928 unidentified graves before July 2027. Officials say the campaign is not only a humanitarian mission but also a national commitment to honour those who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence and ensure that no fallen soldier is forgotten.
